Why Angular is quietly running SAP's frontend

Angular is becoming a first-class option for SAP frontend work, from Composable Storefront and Fundamental NGX to custom apps on SAP BTP.
If you think SAP frontend work means SAPUI5 and Fiori Elements only, look closer. Angular has become SAP's second first-class framework.
Three places you'll find it
SAP Composable Storefront (formerly Spartacus) — the official headless storefront for SAP Commerce Cloud, built entirely in Angular, talking to the backend only through the OCC REST API.
Fundamental NGX — SAP's own Angular component library implementing the Fiori design system. It now ships direct Angular wrappers for UI5 Web Components too, so you get native Fiori look-and-feel without touching SAPUI5's runtime.
SAP BTP extension apps — custom Angular apps deployed on BTP, consuming OData/REST services from S/4HANA, sitting alongside SAPUI5 apps in the same Fiori Launchpad.

For frontend engineers, this is real: SAP work no longer requires learning SAPUI5 from scratch. Angular, NgRx, and solid REST/OData integration skills get you most of the way there.
The catch: SAP-specific extensibility patterns — CMS-driven pages, OCC adapters, and BTP destinations — still take deliberate learning.
